As more than one billion people lack access to safe drink worldwide, waterborne illness has become the leading cause of death. Natural disasters, such as earthquakes or floods will further contaminate water supplies. Developed as an emergency aid for these types of situations, the Hydropack self-fills itself through a forward osmosis membrane that allows the pouch to draw in water and reject contaminants. Filling in approximately 10 hours, the filter can be used in any water source.
