Transform Pineapple Wastes into Biomaterials and Sustainable Products
Andrea Michael De La Peña Aguirre
Mexico
2021

A pineapple takes almost a year to grow, and only one fruit can grow from each plant. Furthermore, pineapple leaves represent approximately 80% of the growing material and are thrown away. Sustrato develops ropes, bioplastic, felt and an agglomerated material from these wastes, test their limitations and qualities, and designs applications to their viability. The aim of Sustrato is to show the hidden potential of agroindustrial organic waste.
